Summer 2014: The Maritimes
During June and July of 2014 we took the summer off work to travel to
the Maritimes on our motorcycles. We chose to haul the motorcycles from Seattle
to Nashville in a truck so we could make time through familiar territory and the
Great Plains. After unloading in Nashville, we rode up through the Appalachians
to the Canadian maritime provinces, then back to Seattle along the north shore
of the Great Lakes. The trip lasted 9 weeks, and we covered 9,100 miles.
The photos are grouped into albums which present them in chronological order
(as we visited each location). The albums break the trip up geographically
based on the areas visited; they are:
After returning to Westcliffe on the Comanche Lake trail, our older brother Drew
drove us up the old (and very rough) jeep road to South Colony lakes (the road is now
closed to motorized vehicles). South Colony lakes sit at the base of the Crestone
Needle and Crestone Peak. These mountains, along with Kit Carson Peak, are the
most dramitc mountains in the range. Their spectacular cliffs attract rock
climbers from all over Colorado.
- The South (South of the Mason-Dixon line) . - Nashville, the Smokies, the Bourbon trail, Gettysburg, and Harpers Ferry
- The East (Eastern US north of the Mason-Dixon line) - Gloucester, Portsmouth, and Maine
- The Maritimes (Canadian Maritime Provinces) - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and PEI
- The North (St Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes area in Canada & US) - Quebec, Ottawa, and Lake Superior
- The West (west of Duluth) - Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and British Columbia
